San Pedro Día de Los Muertos Catrina Contest - Official Rules

I. Eligibility
1. The contest is open to individuals of all genders, aged 18 to 99.
2. Contestants will be judged on creativity, design, crowd response, and personal connection to Día de los Muertos, as shared in their application.

II. Registration
1. Participants must register online at DiscoverSanPedro.com/CatrinaContest.
2. The registration deadline is October 20, 2024. Registration is free.
3. A completed registration form is required for participation.

III. Participation
1. Each contestant may enter only one costume. Participation is individual.
2. Contestants must submit an online form that includes answering specific questions and signing an agreement to abide by contest rules and results.

IV. Costume Requirements
1. Costumes must embody the traditional Catrina character, with creative adaptations encouraged.
2. San Pedro Dia de los Muertos is a family friendly event. Good taste must be used in the creation and presentation of costumes. No nudity will be allowed. Objectionable elements may be grounds for disqualification, as determined by the contest staff. The Día de los Muertos Celebration is a family event, and all costumes must respect the tradition and spirit of the occasion.

V. Contest Structure
1. The Catrina Contest will take place during the Día de los Muertos celebration in Downtown San Pedro.
2. All contestants will compete in one general category.
3. All participants will receive recognition of participation, and prizes will be awarded to the top four contestants.
4. Contestants must be registered, checked in, and present to be judged. Specific check-in details will be provided via email.
5. No entries will be accepted after the registration deadline, and contestants who do not appear at check-in will be dropped from the contest.

VI. Judging
1. The contest will be judged by three reputable jurors selected by the coordinating team.
2. Costumes will be evaluated based on:
Originality
Aesthetic value
Creativity
Contestant attitude
Crowd reaction (measured by a decibel meter)
3. The decision of the judges is final. Awards will be presented at the conclusion of the contest on October 26, 2024.

VII. Miscellaneous
1. All matters not covered in these rules will be resolved by the coordinating team.
2. By participating, contestants agree to abide by all contest rules and decisions.
3. Contestants are responsible for their own belongings. No secure storage will be provided, but contestants may bring an assistant to help manage personal items.
4. No dressing facilities will be provided; contestants must arrive in costume.
5. Any contestant may be disqualified for failure to observe any contest rules or for inappropriate behavior, at the discretion of contest management. All decisions by judges and event staff are final.
6. All photo and video materials obtained during the event become the property of Discover San Pedro and may be used freely for promotional purposes.
7. By entering, contestants waive and release Discover San Pedro, its sponsors, agents, and assigns from any claims or liability for personal injury or property damage arising out of participation in the contest.
